Have a Fit!!

 Jewelry Always Fits!

When I was a child, my grandmother had a beautiful vanity.  That is where it all began. There was a box on top and a drawer on the side. In the box was the longest strand of pearls I had ever seen. I loved to wrap them around and around my neck. In the drawer on the side were the softest leather gloves ever. They were off white and matched the pearls. When I put them on they smelled like powder. They went clear up to my under arms. She told me that both of those items were for evening. Somewhere in this dreamlike memory she said the word Opera.

Present Day…

Different lengths of necklaces have different names. Although not standardized, I have yet to find the source to cite for these terms. They are used all over the industry and can be a helpful to know when shopping for jewelry. When looking online, it can also be good to know these terms.

COLLAR- These necklaces are 12”-14”. They sit on the neck like a dog collar. This length is often confused with the choker style. To insure a good fit, it is often best to get the style that has adjustable chain closures.

CHOKER- This style sits right at the base of the neck. It is 14”-16” depending primarily on the size of the wearer’s neck.

PRINCESS- This perfect length sits right on the collar bone. Traditionally these are 18” long. Think of the recent photos of Anna Wintour wearing her signature necklace. I love this style because it can be worn with scoop necks, blouses and V-neck shirts and dresses.

MATINEE- 20”-24”. This length to me is most useful when layering necklaces. It is the lowest length to wear when piling on the chains and beads. It works well with princess and checker lengths for that purpose.

OPERA- 28”-36” Just like the name, this length is strong on drama. This is especially beautiful on women or men with longer torsos. You would mostly see them at night or for special occasion as they need attention as you move around. They can get caught on arm chairs and door knobs if you aren’t careful.

ROPE-36”-42” This is also known as a Lariat. They are seen currently as wrapped around the neck and the ends are left to be loose. It is bohemian and playful. It can also be really dressy in diamonds or rhinestones.

In my current collection I have all lengths, as the cross body length would be considered Opera. I love chokers as well. Whether you need a piece to spice up your wardrobe or you want something that has real drama, check my collection!
